Henning Kjaernulf

Henning Kjaernulf, the Danish mid-century designer and architect, remains somewhat enigmatic, with his designs overshadowing knowledge about the man himself. Renowned for his impeccably crafted wooden pieces, Kjaernulf was primarily associated with Danish manufacturers such as EG Kvalitetsmobel, Nyrup Møbelfabrik, and Vejle Stole Møbelfabrik. Among his notable creations was the teak extending dining table produced by Vejle Stole Møbelfabrik. The archives of the Danish municipality, Stenlille, shed light on Kjaernulf’s architectural endeavours for Nyrup Møbelfabrik, identifying him as an architect based in Odense, Denmark. His portfolio showcases meticulous craftsmanship, embodying the sleek lines and sculpted forms characteristic of Danish modern design. Noteworthy are his distinctive designs, including the razorblade-like chair backrests that set him apart from his contemporaries. Despite the enduring popularity of his dining sets and lounge chairs, the enigmatic nature of Kjaernulf’s background only enhances the allure of his creations.
Picture of H.Kjænulf will follow.
